The Zaragoza-Delicias (EIZD) is located in the Mediterranean corridor of the rail passenger transport network of the TEN-T network (Mediterranean Core Network Corridor), it was inaugurated in 2013 integrating high speed, long, medium distance, commuter trains, and long-distance intercity buses. EIZD’s current location and configuration present difficulties to integrate different transport modes, pedestrian connection and transhipment.
The Zaragoza Metropolitan Mobility Guidelines of the Zaragoza Area Consortium of Transportation and the Urban Mobility Plan includes works to improve EIZD connectivity with Zaragoza urban and metropolitan area, and its functionality, as its accessibility to facilitate the mobility of the passengers.
Activities include studies for improving connectivity of EIZD and Terminal exchange of the portillo, conducting the studies for the extension of the urban tram network through designing the line 2 of tram to improve the mobility, improving the promotion of the bicycle integration and strengthen the use of private electric vehicles.
European aid would also be used to finance part of the update of the PMUS, the draft and project of the Tram Line 2, among other measures, under the CEF-INEA financing programme covering until 50% total cost of the Linking project.
