The Action encompasses a set of different activities aiming at improving multimodality, safety and capacity of the Lyon bottleneck. More than 1,200 international, national and regional, trains are passing through the Lyon rail node every day, it is therefore a European crossroad for freight and passenger traffic. Those are either transiting through or converging in this junction and thus connecting with the urban passenger networks and multimodal freight hubs.
The project includes studies on several possible solutions: Improving capacity by building a new platform at the Part Dieu station.
Reducing the congestion in the main entrance hall, by building a new access (from the South) to the station.improving the line capacity between Perrache and Guillotiere station, thus increasing the number of trains and their punctuality.
Improving the railway access to the multimodal logistic hub at the Port of Lyon Edouard Herriot.
Eliminating a suburban level crossing where fatal accidents occurred in the past.
