The existing railway which connects the region’s two largest cities, Göteborg and Borås, is single track and it is not connected to the core airport of Göteborg Landvetter (GOT). Travel to and from the airport as well as commuting to this fast-growing airport city and logistics centre is therefore restricted to road only.
The Global Project consists of building of a new double track high speed railway between Göteborg and Borås. The high-speed line will be built as a completely new, approximately 60 kilometres long. It will be operated by trains travelling at speeds of up to 320 km/h. The new railway will pass Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT) and passengers will be able to get to the departure and arrival terminals easily from a new train station.
The current Action is a study and will be implemented through two main activities: the planning of the railway and development and study for adaption of the Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT).
The final aim of the new railway is to strengthen connectivity within West Sweden and to improve access to Göteborg Landvetter Airport.

The project will add a better commuter connection between these cities, it will increase the capacity for freight on the old rail line and it forms the first part of the high speed line Gothenburg-Stockholm. The latter will be built in the next years up to 2030 if the national government allocates funding to this project.
