The main objective of the Action is to fulfil all the necessary environmental, economic and technical preconditions for the implementation of a Multicentre Logistics Platformsited in “Los Camachos” Industrial Park, which has more than 3.5 million square meters available.

The new logistical space will include the necessary infrastructures and equipment to offer intermodal services within the functional areas of the new Transportation Service Area, the Logistics Activities Area (LAA), and the Cartagena Intermodal railway Terminal (IT) which are located on the Mediterranean Core Network Corridor. The project is promoted by the Port Authority of Cartagena with the collaboration of the Ministry of Development and Infrastructure and the Institute of Development of the Region of Murcia. The total cost of the project amounts to 1,3M€, of which the Connecting Europe Facility programme will finance 50%.

The Action will result in resolving different issues currently affecting port operations, like traffic congestion and limited capacity of cargo terminals, assuring an effective implementation of the Global Project by decreasing heavy vehicle traffic and at the same time increasing transport of goods by rail, which will positively affect co-modality and the movement of cargo thus contributing to the elimination of the current bottleneck in the port and optimising the regional logistical chain.

The Regional Ministry of Development and Infrastructure, the Port Authority and the Murcia Region Development Institute are working in an advanced stage of the project for the integration of the new infrastructure and equipment in an environment protection manner.
